Veterans, Active Military, & Police

You understand what’s it’s like to be part of something bigger than just yourself. You believe in honor, sacrifice, and camaraderie. It’s easy for others to judge when they’ve never been in your shoes. Your service is part of your identity. It has shaped you and contributed to the man and woman you are today.

Yet you face unique stressors stemming from your service:

  • Long shifts or deployments

  • Time away from your families

  • Dealing with civilians who just don’t get it

  • Dangerous or unpredictable situations

  • Difficulty transitioning once you’ve handed in your uniform and don’t know your next steps

  • Stress that comes with working in a bureaucratic hierarchy

  • Disappointment that comes from not feeling supported by the people you believed in and you thought had your back

  • Backlash from a society who condemns the very job you do

Don’t let the stigma get in the way. Getting help is not a sign of weakness. It just means you’re human, even though you’re a hero.

Your story is near and dear to my heart. My grandfather was a Borinqueneer who fought in Korea. My father is a retired NYPD officer and detective. My brother is serving in the Army Reserves. My family’s dedication to service inspired me to help people just like them. Throughout my career, I have worked with veterans at the NY Harbor VA and at CUNY campuses. I’ve been privileged to have many service-members share their stories with me, and I would be honored to hear yours.
